As a seasoned newborn photographer (legit cannot believe it’s been ** years already?!), I’ve really worked to grow and perfect my style over the years. I’ve come to LOVE the classic minimalist newborn photography style. There’s nothing better than that clean, simple look with a heavy emphasis on all things white and neutral. And I’ve designed my studio space as well as my client closet to reflect this vibe!
Everything about my photography and editing style are so intentionally focused on how I can best capture you and YOUR family’s unique vibe and personalities. When you look back on those precious family photos in 10…20…30 years, you’re not going to care much about the elaborate backdrops, baby swaddles, or trendy outfits. But you will care about remembering that sweet emotional connection between you and your newborn baby. Or the aggressively awkward smile your 5 year old did for EVERY family photo. Or the candid, laughter-filled moments of your toddler running around and their absolutely unhinged chaos.
That’s why I’m still obsessed with minimalist newborn photography. It lets us focus on capturing those sweet, emotion-filled moments so you can treasure them for years to come.
Still not convinced minimalist is the way to go? Keep reading for the top 5 reasons why I prefer this style…
I love the minimalist newborn photography style because it removes any noisy distractions so that the focus remains on the star of the show: your baby! I keep the setup in my studio super clean, crisp, and simple to really highlight all the adorable details: their sweet expressions, tiny toes, and cute little noses.
Bold colors or trendy props may seem fun, but they can date a photo real fast. You’ll be treasuring your child’s newborn photos for decades to come and we don’t need you cringing looking back at an out-of-date style! The core aspects of minimalist vibe like neutral tones and uncluttered styling will help give your photos a classic look that will age beautifully.
One of my favorite things about minimalist style is that when you take away all the props and busy backdrops, you are able to focus on capturing the natural bond between baby and their family. By using soft lightning in my studio and incorporating subtle posing, I’m able to capture photos that really emphasize emotion and intimacy. And there’s nothing sweeter than capturing that special new bond between you and your newborn baby! (have I mentioned that I have the literal best job ever?!)
A minimalist approach for newborn sessions often means fewer outfit changes and less time configuring elaborate backdrop and prop setups. I love this because it means less stress for baby (and less work for parents!) and a session that is so simple and smooth. We get to focus on having fun, making memories, and capturing images that feel WAY more natural.
As a minimalist newborn photographer, I tend to lean into using more soft, natural light and shadows. I am a firm believer that natural light always creates more beautiful images with much more depth than when using lighting equipment. This is why when building my new home studio, I wanted floor to ceiling windows! The result is a studio space with the MOST natural light you have ever seen…all day long! (check out a sneak peek here!) It’s the perfect space for capturing those warm, natural shots of you and baby.
I would LOVE to work with you and capture precious, timeless photos of you and your sweet baby.
