Photographers, here’s an easy way to grow your client closet without going broke shopping for new pieces on your own.

As a studio family photographer, I really love having a client closet available for anyone who books a full session with me. It’s one small extra way I can support stressed out mamas. I’ve been slowly adding cute pieces and building out the perfect client closet over the past couple of years and so many of my clients love taking advantage of the wardrobe options for their sessions!

If you are a studio photographer and want to go the extra mile to create the best experience for your clients, I highly recommend collecting a few cute outfit options in a variety of sizes for your clients to choose from. For many people, trying to find a cute outfit that they love and feel confident in can feel like such an overwhelming and stressful task. Especially for mamas who are just trying to figure out what their kids will wear and are procrastinating on deciding their own outfit! 🤪

The best way to grow your client closet? Host a Wear & Share Deal

Building out your client closet (or refreshing what you currently have), doesn’t have to include an expensive and time consuming shopping spree.

Instead, consider hosting a wear and share deal! There are tons of ways you can do this, but the basic idea is a client trades an outfit of theirs for a free session with you. This way you get fun new pieces to add to your client closet (without breaking the bank) AND cute photos of them showing off the outfit to use for marketing. And they get gorgeous photos for free in return. Everyone wins!!

How I set up my Wear & Share Deals:

If you feel like you need a little more guidance on the logistics of this, here is what I do for my Wear & Share Deals…

  1. Create an online outfit wish list for clients to purchase from (this is the best way I’ve found to ensure the outfits fit my vibe & style). Here are a few of my favorite places to purchase quality outfits from for my closet:
    • Worth Collective
    • Baby Moon & Kids
    • Baltic Born
  2. Once a client purchases an outfit, they receive a credit for a future session.
  3. They wear their new outfit to the session and leave it with me in exchange for a gallery of timeless images!

Tips for growing your client closet…

When choosing pieces for your client closet, remember versatile is key! Focus on flowy dresses and tops or stretchy, oversized sweaters so that they work well for most sizes and are bump friendly. Also aim for pieces that work well for multiple seasons so that you can use them year round.

I also recommend focusing on quality over quantity. A few quality pieces that are going to look great in photos is always better than several cheap tees in every size that look…well…cheap! It’s ok to take your time building your closet and only choosing high quality outfits that you really love!

Want more ideas on what types of pieces to add to your client closet? Feel free to reach out! (seriously, do it!) I’d love to help!
